after school

Riverside Unified School District currently has twenty-six (26) after-school programs operating at twenty (20) elementary schools and six (6) middle schools. These programs are funded by a combination of California Department of Education After-School Education and Safety Program (ASESP) and federal 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC) grants. The programs run from the close of school each day until 6:00 p.m. at all schools. The programs are required to provide an academic hour, a nutritious snack, and enrichment activities. The programs are free. Enrollment is voluntary. The number of students who can be accepted into the after-school program at each site is limited and varies according to the amount of funding the school receives. Schools may choose to prioritize enrollment of students into the program based on academic need.

The elementary after-school programs are called "Helping Elementary Achievers Reach the Stars" (HEARTS). Per the funding guidelines, students who enroll in the elementary programs are expected to attend the full program daily. Students exiting the program prior to 6:00 p.m. must adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Early Release policy.
