Fremont Elementary Crossing Guard Honored by Riverside City Council for Heroic Actions

Fremont Elementary School crossing guard Aida Claudio was recognized by Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson during the April 7 Riverside City Council meeting for her extraordinary bravery and dedication to student safety.

In November 2025, Claudio demonstrated courage when she stepped in without hesitation to protect a student who was being threatened by an aggressive individual. She placed herself directly in harm’s way to shield the child, ensuring the student arrived safely at school.

"The City of Riverside proudly commends crossing guard Aida Claudio for her extraordinary commitment to our community. Her leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to protecting our youth exemplify the highest standards of public service," Dawson said during the meeting. "Her courageous and selfless actions to protect a student from harm demonstrated remarkable bravery and heroism. Her service is deeply valued and stands as an inspiration to us all."
