New Student Board Members Sworn In for 2018-19
Posted on 09/05/2018
Student Board Members 2018-19At September 4th’s Riverside Unified School District Board of Education meeting, three new student members were sworn into the ranks for the 2018-2019 school year. Daniel Sosa of Martin Luther King High School is the first student to serve, taking his spot alongside the publicly-elected members of the Board. Also taking the Oath of Office was Emily Zhou of Martin Luther King High School, who will serve from December 2018 through February 2019, and America Delgado of Ramona High School, who will be on the Board from March 2018 through May 2019.

Chosen from the population of seniors at its eight high schools, the sitting Student Board Member is recognized at meetings as a full member. They receive all materials except those related to closed sessions. Their preferential votes are cast along with the official Board vote and do not affect the final outcome.

Any student attending a Riverside Unified School District high school, who met the eligibility requirements for extracurricular activities and will be a senior for the 2017-2018 school year, was eligible to apply to be a Student Board Member.  Students who had applied for the office were interviewed by current, publicly-elected Board members Brent Lee and Tom Hunt. This process will take place again in the spring of 2019 for Poly, Arlington, or any EOC high school (Raincross, Riverside Virtual, or Summit View).
