RIVERSIDE - The Beaumont Unified School District (BUSD) Board of Education took action on January 12, 2021 to hire Riverside Unified School District’s (RUSD) Chief Business Officer (CBO), Mays Kakish, as their next superintendent of schools.

Effective March 1, 2021, Kakish will bring her 21 years of experience as an educator to serve the community of Beaumont. Kakish has high energy, passion, and strong knowledge of instructional best practices. She has excellent business acumen and is a key relationship builder throughout the community. She has a strategic and fiscally responsible mind and is the ideal leader for the role of superintendent. However, what sets her apart in this current environment is her ability to cultivate relationships and the care she shows everyone.

During her tenure as CBO in RUSD, Kakish forged strong partnerships with a wide variety of stakeholder groups and instituted procedures, practices, and policies to ensure fiscal solvency. RUSD continues to provide innovative programs, close achievement gaps, and serve the community through health, wellness, meals and so much more under the helm of Kakish’s leadership. She keeps students at the forefront of every decision made in the District. She will be deeply missed and her friends and colleagues at RUSD wish her the best of luck in her new position. Congratulations Mays!

“I just wanted to express how excited I am to be appointed as the Superintendent of BUSD,” Mays shared. “In many ways, this return to Beaumont serves as a full circle moment for myself and my family. I have experienced firsthand the greatness of the staff and families that make up this incredible district, serving as an assistant superintendent and auditor for many years in Beaumont I want to thank all my colleagues and the many leaders in my life who have supported me along my journey in education. I also want to thank my Husband and my family for their support.”

“Ms. Kakish is leaving RUSD strong and secure in all financial aspects including budget reserves that exceed the State mandate by double, and a plan in place to protect employee retirement plans,” shared Board of Education President, Mr. Thomas R. Hunt II.

“Thanks to her guidance, RUSD continues to create safe and engaging learning environments for all students. Many of our needed Measure O school modernization projects are completed or underway. Also, under Kakish's leadership the District achieved an excellent bond rating allowing the District to refinance its debt obligation bonds, saving taxpayers over $5 million.”

Mr. Hunt continues, “She has brought stability and clarity to all aspects of fiscal oversight, especially during these unprecedented times.  On behalf of the Board, we wish her the best on this next stage of her career.”
