RIVERSIDE - On Tuesday’s Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) Board of Education meeting on December 15, 2020, the Oath of Office was administered to the re-elected and the newly elected RUSD Board Trustees, Mr. Tom Hunt (Trustee Area 4), Dr. Angelo Farooq (Trustee Area 3) and Mr. Dale Kinnear (Trustee Area 2).

The Board of Education voted on the 2021-2022 office positions listed below:

  • Mr. Tom Hunt, President

  • Mr. Brent Lee, Vice President

  • Dr. Angelo Farooq, Clerk

  • Mrs. Kathy Allavie, Member

  • Mr. Dale Kinnear, Member

"I share the opinion of my peers that Kathy Allavie's term as RUSD's Board of Education President has been the most challenging for the District in the last half-century. She was instrumental towards the District staff's design of the COVID response for the choices parents were offered for continued education delivery to over 40,000 students, successfully advocated for Special Education students to return to on-campus instruction, and established an expanded commitment to communication to our stakeholders”, President Hunt acknowledged. “I am honored to follow her term of leadership as we move forward in these unprecedented times to educate our students in new and unconventional ways. The Board recognizes that there are opportunities within this crisis which can have fundamental impact as to the future educational, management, and communications of RUSD—the 16th largest public school district now in its 140th year. Earlier this year our staff created the slogan, ‘Be Unified’. I view this as the summation of the possibilities ahead with our community, our stakeholders, and employees unifying to ensure best practices now and opportunities in future years. ‘Being Unified’ is essential towards ensuring that in this crisis we will look back and affirm that this was indeed RUSD's finest hour.”

In addition, the Board of Education voted to move school board business meetings and study sessions to Thursdays in an effort to better collaborate with the City of Riverside and other community partners who conduct business on Tuesdays.
