The Dual Language Immersion program offers English speaking and Spanish speaking students an exciting, enriching and challenging educational opportunity. All students will learn to read, write, and communicate effectively in Spanish and English while achieving high levels of academic success. Students will have the bilingual skills and cross-cultural competencies needed to succeed in our multicultural society and global economy. These are priceless gifts that will serve our children for a life-time.

Program Goals
  • Achieve in all academic subjects according to district and state guidelines.
  • Develop fluency in communication and literacy in Spanish and English without compromising either language.
  • Cultivate understanding and appreciation of other cultures, inspire self- esteem, and strengthen positive attitudes among students, their families and the community.
Curriculum
  • The program follows the district’s core curriculum and uses state-adopted materials.
  • Grade-level Common Core State Standards are taught.
  • Delivery of lessons is through one language at a time.
  • Teachers are highly trained and receive continuous professional development to ensure best instructional practices.
90/10 Program Model

Grades K-2:

  • Language Arts is taught in Spanish.
  • 1 or 2 content areas are taught in English.
  • 30 minutes of English language development is provided daily.

Grade 3:

  • Language Arts is taught in English and in Spanish.
  • 1 or 2 content areas are taught in English.
  • 30 minutes of English language development is provided daily.

Grades 4-6:

  • 50% of the content is taught in English.
  • 50% of the content is taught in Spanish.
  • There is a continued emphasis on English language development and academic vocabulary.
  • High academic and linguistic expectations are in place.

Grades 7-12:

  • Focus is on continued development of both languages.
  • One to two content areas are taught in Spanish.
