Response to Governor Message on School Closure

Response to Governor Message on School Closure
Posted on 04/01/2020
BooksWith a commitment to the safety of students and staff, RUSD Board of Education took swift action to close schools on March 13, 2020. This commitment resulted in immediate direction to staff to create a “At-Home Learning Resources”, meal service for all students and regular communication to staff, families and community.

In addition, RUSD proactively developed a robust Distance Learning Plan that began Monday, March 30, 2020 with staff professional development in preparation to move students from “At Home Learning Resources” to Distance Learning. Beginning April 13, 2020, students will experience standards aligned lessons and opportunities to engage with their teachers and classmates. RUSD is proud of the work taken on by dedicated certificated, classified and administrative staff to prepare for the delivery of Distance Learning for ALL students.

Earlier today, in an online press conference, Governor Gavin Newsom extended the school closure order for the remainder of the school year. We also received official notification from the Riverside County Office of Public Health that we will be closed through June 19, 2020.

We have proactively prepared for an extended school closure with the development of the Distance Learning Plan. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to virtually meet with student leaders, teachers, principals, and also parent and community leaders to plan for graduations, promotions and end of year celebrations.

Challenging times often bring out the best in every member of a family, and we are so grateful that our staff, students, families and community partners are a part of the RUSD family. This is a difficult time, and we know everyone is working hard to balance family care. We remain committed to doing our very best to provide meal service and learning for all students during this unprecedented time. We will get through this together, as an RUSD family.
