Update on Riverside County School Waiver Applications
Posted on 11/13/2020
On Friday, November 13, 2020, The Riverside Unified School District (RUSD) was notified that the Riverside County Department of Public Health has suspended the ability for schools and districts to apply for a waiver for re-opening K-6 schools to in-person instruction. The California Department of Public Health guidelines stipulate that counties with 14-day case rates of more than 200 cases per 100,000 population should not be considered for a waiver to re-open schools to in-person instruction. Riverside County’s COVID-19 case prevalence data and positivity rates continue to trend upward.
School waivers for in-person instruction will not be considered for approval by public health officials until Riverside County’s adjusted case rate is consistently below the 200 cases per 100,000 population.
The State of California updates county tier level status based on current COVID-19 case data metrics every Tuesday. Updates can be found at https://covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/.
RUSD will continue to provide updated information to staff, students, and families as the situation develops. In order to help flatten the curve, remember to maintain social distance, wear a facial covering, utilize good hygiene, and get tested.
